Communications veteran takes Vice President role at Travelport
Travelport has appointed an industry veteran as its new Vice President of Public Relations and Corporate Communications.
After spending much of his career working at Sky, the Football Association and Ofcom, Julian Eccles is to take over from Kate Aldridge, who joined Travelport in 2005 as its Senior Manager, Corporate Communications for Europe, the Middle East and Africa before becoming the Corporate Communications Director for the EMEA and APAC regions in 2010, Senior Director of Corporate Communications in 2012 and finally Vice President of Corporate Communications in 2014.
She previously held the roles of Director of Communications at Cims, Head of Corporate Communications at TUI Northern Europe and Head of Communications at Going Places.
Speaking about the changes, Travelport’s Chief Executive Officer, Gordon Wilson, said: “I am delighted Julian will be joining the Travelport team. His background in promoting rapidly changing companies combined with an exceptional breadth of experience will help us tell our growth and transformation story in even more compelling ways.”
Eccles’ career has seen him hold a variety of senior jobs in communications, including being the Director of Marketing and Communications at the FA between 2010 and 2011, Director of Communications at Ofcom from 2007 to 2010 and Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs at Sky between 2000 and 2005.
As well as this, Eccles has been the Vice President for Corporate Communications at Millicom, Senior Associate Director at Hill & Knowlton and Special Adviser for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Another veteran recently finding a new senior job in the travel and tourism industry was Mike Bonner, who was appointed the new Director of Sales and Marketing at Rosewood London.
Bonner’s new role will include providing leadership and strategic direction to its promotions and sales team, while he has previously been the Vice President of Global Marketing for One&Only Resorts, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Maybourne Hotel Group, and General Manager for the UK and Ireland at Silversea Cruises.
